OBITUARY

Barbara Ann Boots

April 22, 1943 – February 1, 2022
Obituary of Barbara Ann Boots
IN THE CARE OF

Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home

Barbara Ann Boots, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed into the arms of the Lord on February 1st 2022 at the age of 78.

Barbara was born on April 22nd 1943 and was a life-long resident of the Town of Greenwich. She grew up in Byram and made her home in Cos Cob after she married. She had a long and loving marriage of 55 years to her husband Peter J. Boots, originally of Alkmaar, Holland. They were married in 1967.

After graduating Greenwich High School in 1962, Barbara worked as Secretary-Receptionist at Interstate Lumber, Greenwich; in Sales Support at Shaffer-Clarke and Co. Importing, Darien, and for many years as a Library Assistant at the Cos Cob Library where she retired in 2015. She considered the library a second home and the ladies that worked there like extended family, always referring to them as “Her Girls.”

Barbara was an Artist. She created the displays and artwork for the Cos Cob Library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program for many years. She was also an avid volunteer for the Public Schools while her children attended and helped as a teacher assistant in the Art department. Barbara was a member of the PTA, helping with special projects like designing the new school playground, working at the May Fair and making costumes for the school plays.

She loved sewing, crocheting and crafting. She made beautiful blankets and children’s clothes as well as other items for her friends and family. Barbara loved animals, sharing her home with many dogs, cats and other furry friends throughout the years. Going to County fairs and quilt shows were favorite pastimes of hers. Along with her husband, Barbara’s grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved spending time with them and going to their school and social functions, recitals, birthday parties and other celebrations.

Barbara had a kind and generous spirit, always opening her home and heart to people. Her true vocation was her family to whom she lovingly tended as a gardener guides flowers to bloom. She believed in old-fashioned wisdom and practicality. She knew the healing magic that sitting and sharing a good cup of tea or bowl of ice cream could bring.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, Anna and Franklin MacDonald. She leaves behind her husband, Peter Boots of Cos Cob, her children and their partners: Yvonne and Christopher Boots-Faubert of Falmouth, MA and Brian Boots and Kathryn Atkin of Middletown and Stamford, CT; Grandchildren Peter and Autumn Boots-Faubert of Massachusetts, and Patrick and Seamus Boots of Connecticut; Her brothers, James MacDonald of Waterbury, CT; Raymond and Dorothy MacDonald of Ansonia, CT; Nephew and wife Kevin and Tylice MacDonald and family also of Ansonia, CT, and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews in Holland. Barbara also leaves behind many friends including her best friend of nearly 70 years Patricia Donnelly of Cos Cob.

A private service will be held for her at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Connecticut Humane Society may be made in Barbara’s name.
