Barbara Jean (Bennett) Jackson was born on January 14, 1938, to two loving parents, Sylvester Bennett, Sr. and his wife Rosebell in Clinton, North Carolina. After she graduated from Sampson High School in Clinton, Barbara moved to Mt. Vernon, New York when she was 19 years old where she worked as a housekeeper. She continued to work as a housekeeper for several families in Greenwich until she retired in 1997. After retiring she worked as a volunteer for the Greenwich Auxiliary Thrift Shop. On June 9, 1962, she married James D. Jackson and from this union they had three children, Vanessa, James, and Andre. Barbara loved her family and often had them over for dinner, conversation and relaxation. She was an excellent cook. Some of her family’s favorite dishes were her Lasagna, fried chicken, potato salad and collard greens. She loved sports, especially football and basketball and she watched her son, Andre, play football during his school years and later when he coached. If her health held up, she would travel to North Carolina every year to attend her high school alumni event. The drive there and back afforded Andre the opportunity to spend some precious and quality time talking with his mother and it was something both enjoyed. Barbara loved people, she never met a stranger, but she would engage people in conversation and before they knew it they would tell her their life story. She often asks one question after another, showing personal interest in others and this endeared her to many acquaintances and friends. She loved to talk to people about the Bible and the hope it holds out to those who have fallen asleep in death. She spoke of the Bible’s promise of living forever in paradise right here on the earth. She especially shared this information with the friends that she met at McDonald’s every morning. Family members remember Barbara as a kind, loving, and very friendly person who also was very generous. She will be missed by those who loved her. As evidence of her unselfish love for her family, even though she knew she was dying, Barbara told her two sons, “you two boys take care of each other because Jehovah is going to take care of me.” James will miss the spiritual and daily conversations he use to have with his mother about Jehovah and his Kingdom. He said, “she was a great mother and an amazing woman.” Andre said, “she was mom, but she also was my friend.” He would call her buddy. Barbara is survived by her sons, James Jackson and his wife Amy of Fairfield CT, Andre Jackson of Greenwich CT, her brother, Sylvester Bennett, Jr. And his wife Gloria of Pembroke Pines FL and a number of grandchildren and one great grandchild, and nieces and nephews.
