
Charles H. Birdsall, 72, died June 29, 2016, in Greenwich CT from complications of lung cancer. Charles was born March 29, 1944, in Ann Arbor Michigan. He earned a BS in Business from Lawrence Tech University and an advanced degree from the United Kingdom in Marine Archeology. He married Kathleen Donohoe on May 7, 1966 in Detroit. They celebrated fifty years of marriage this year. They moved to Traverse City in June 1978 and raised their two daughters there. Until February, Chuck was a very active retiree, traveling all over the world with Kathy or his travel buddy, Richard Worsham. He also enjoyed marine archeology, scuba diving, mountain and road cycling, boating, fishing, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, and investing. He retired in 2006, in time for the birth of his grandchildren, and went on to spend many days swimming, boating and fishing with all four. He was a 30-year participant in Alcoholics Anonymous, counting his colleagues in AA as his great friends and valued support network. He was a generous sponsor of many newly- recovering alcoholics.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughters Kirsten (Terry Craw) of Greenwich, CT. and Karen (Richard Moorjani) of ChristChurch, Barbados, grandchildren Sebastian and Sadie Craw, Charlie and Abby Moorjani, his sister, Stephanie Fair of Mansfield, Ohio, his hunting buddy, Lido and many cousins.
A memorial service is planned for July 14, 4pm-7pm at The The Hagerty Conference Center, in Traverse City. Donations may be made in his memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for Lung Research or Alano by the Bay.
