Charles passed away at his home in Greenwich of natural causes. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John. Charlie lived for his first 55 years at Southbury Training School, the state institution for developmentally delayed people. He left to join his mother, CA Gibson, in Greenwich. They traveled the world extensively visiting Europe, Africa and South America.
Charles was a skilled cook, worked at the Greenwich Library and held many other part time jobs. During the last twenty years or so he became more and more involved in the Greenwich Senior Center. Of course, he enjoyed the delicious lunches, but he also participated in many daily activities such as singing with the Silvertones, art class specializing in landscapes, knitting–vests, blankets, scarves, and was well known for his participation in various entertainment activities as well as his ‘dead-on’ ability to put together 1000+ piece puzzles.
At home, he had several collections and was completely enamored by his lovely gray cat, DIVA. His mother, CA Gibson was his guardian and she passed on medical and eventually plenary guardianship to a not-for profit, GARP, based at ARI in Stamford. His physical needs were met by two excellent caregivers, Annette and Aletha Gay who provided care 24/7 the last year of his life as well as many years before he died.
Personally, Charles was a gentleman through and through. He was appreciative of kindness and was able to say so. He touched the life of everyone who met him with love.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 10 am. at 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT. Parking is available on the street, parking lot across the street and on Greenwich Avenue.
If you wish to make a charitable contribution, we believe Charlie would like to support the Greenwich Senior Center and any other charity of your choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, Greenwich, CT.
