CLIFFORD C. FROST died peacefully on June 14, 2010 after struggling bravely through cancer and pneumonia. He was born on November 25, 1926 in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, where he happily spent his entire life. Cliff was the son of the late George Arnold Frost and Gladys Clifford; grandson of Harry Carrington Frost, architect of the Old Greenwich Elementary School, and Lucy Ford; and the beloved father of Luellen Hertel of Taos, New Mexico, Victoria Maloney Bastis of Stamford, Connecticut and Anne Robinson of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, daughters from his former marriage to Lee Frost Little; and adored grandfather ("Pop Pop") to David, Daniel and Brooke Maloney; Erika, Stefan and Ryan Hertel; and Scott and Carrie Robinson; brother to George ("Jack") Frost of Phoenix, Arizona; and Prudence Prothero & Daniel Milton, Jr. of Sarasota, Florida. He also leaves behind his lady friend of 22 years, Jean Lamb of Wayland, Ma. Cliff or "Frosty", as he was affectionately known by his friends, was a true Old Greenwich native, tracing his roots back to the 1700's through the Ford family. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1945 and enthusiastically enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1945 to 1947 as a B-29 flight engineer. After being honorably discharged, he attended the University of Bridgeport; and in 1950 opened the Old Greenwich Children's Shop, a successful children's clothing store serving the community until 1984. He was the President of the Old Greenwich Business Association as well as the President of the Old Greenwich Lions Club. He was also a licensed Real Estate broker from 1969 to 2001. From 1980 until 2000, he was the Vice President and Treasurer of the Maloney Brothers Hockey Schools. From 1994 to 2000, he worked for the Town of Greenwich at the Board of Tax Review. Cliff was an active member of the Republican Town Committee, serving as District 6 Chairman. He was also a long time member of the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) from 1957 to 1989, receiving many awards and citations for his community service. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1960 and served in that capacity for 30 years. He was an avid yachtsman and a member of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club & Rocky Point Club and was once the oldest person in the State of Connecticut to hold a personal jet ski license at the age of 75. He was often seen pulling up to the dock at Rocky Point and giving jet ski rides to the children. He was a devoted sports fan and loved the New York Rangers and New York Yankees; but his greatest passion and joy was cheering for his grandchildren's teams at the Greenwich Skating Club, Greenwich Youth Lacrosse, Brunswick School, Greenwich High School, Junior/Senior Babe Ruth League Baseball and St. Lawrence University. Having "Frosty" on the bench or on the sidelines always put a big smile on the players' faces. Back in 1949, he became a member of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department and would go on to serve as President and Assistant Fire Chief. He remained an active and devoted member of the department until his death. In 1979, he oversaw the re-acquisition and complete restoration of one of SBVFD's original fire engines, a 1931 Seagrave Pumper. This magnificent piece of SBVFD history is his legacy and celebrates his 61 years of dedication to the department. "Old Engine One" or the "Antique", as he fondly called it, will be showcased and enjoyed by future generations for many years to come. He waved proudly from the truck just two weeks ago during the Memorial Day Parade along Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich. The Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department will honor him by taking him on his final ride on his beloved antique fire truck on Saturday, June 19th as it carries him from the Fire House to his Memorial Funeral Service, which will be held at the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich at 4 PM. Calling hours before his service will be held at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street in Greenwich on Friday, June 18th from 4 PM to 8 PM (Tel. No. 1.203.869.1513). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department (SBVFD), Inc. in Cliff's memory. Checks should be made out to "SBVFD, Inc." and sent to 207 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT 06870 (Tel. No. 1.203.637.1806) in care of District Chief Paul W. Chiapetta & Stanley Thal. A true American who loved the community he served; and a devoted family man, Cliff, "Dad", "Pop Pop", "Frosty" will always be remembered dearly by his family and friends.
