Born in Greenwich, CT, she was the daughter of Merrill H. and Carmen R. Rathbun (née Wassman). She attended Greenwich High School and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Family Studies. She worked with computers in her early years and later as a church secretary. She was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Greenwich, and later St. Paul Lutheran Church of Greenwich.
She loved traveling, and was grateful that she could say she had visited every state in the continental US. She enjoyed camping every summer with her family and driving to Indiana for Christmas. Her favorite hobby was crochet, and you could always depend on her to make a blanket for your new baby. She was also an avid bowler in her younger days, when she was part of bowling leagues and scored many a “perfect game.” She was best known at family gatherings for her sweet potatoes, playing cards, and glaring at you when you tried to take her picture. She always strived to make people feel welcome, appreciated, and seen.
She is survived by her husband David A. Schroer and daughter Sarah E. Schroer, as well as her brothers Darryl Rathbun (Tracey) and Steven Rathbun (Annie). She was predeceased by her sister Cheryl Dorazio and her parents.
A viewing will be held at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home in Greenwich on Friday August 8th from 4-8pm. A service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenwich on Saturday August 9th at 11am.
