Dorothy ("Diddy") Babcock Crawford passed away peacefully at age 95 on June 16, 2013 at Edgehill. She was born in New York City on November 10, 1917, the daughter of Chauncey and Violet Babcock. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Morris ("Rusty"), in 1999. Diddy and Rusty had three children: son, Duncan, and his wife, Gretchen, of Marstons Mills, Massachusetts; son, Gordon, and his wife, Dona, of La Canada Flintridge, California; and Linda Wolfgruber of Wilton, Connecticut. She was also blessed by thirteen grandchildren: Jeffrey, Brett, Derek, Christian, Hayley, Heidi, Samantha, Adam, Scott, Tyler, Casey, Cody, and Nick; and three great grandchildren: Jack, Christopher(C.J.), and Ryann.
Diddy loved working as a volunteer at hospitals. At age 19, she was the first volunteer at Memorial Hospital, now part of Sloan Kettering in New York City, working five mornings a week in the children's wing, providing care to young cancer patients. From 1959-1994, Diddy volunteered at Greenwich Hospital. She was at one point the Chair of the Auxiliary, and she served on the Board of Trustees for thirteen years. From 1978-1980, Diddy was Chair of the Volunteers and served on the Board of Directors of the Greenwich Chapter of the Red Cross. In 1979, she was selected as the Greenwich Time's Clubwoman of the Year. Finally, she was a member at Christ Church for many years.
Diddy will be greatly missed by all she leaves behind, but will now by reunited with the love of her life, Rusty. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Greenwich Hospital or Christ Church.
