OBITUARY

Edward M Bacon Jr.

Edward Michael Bacon, Jr., 81, passed at his home in Greenwich, CT on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, surrounded by his wife and children after a year long battle with cancer. Ed was born August 25, 1930 and was the son of the late Edward M. Bacon and Edna Honora Bacon. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Bacon, and his sister, Nancy Johansen.

Ed was born in New York, NY and moved to Greenwich in 1946. He graduated from Brunswick School in 1948 and from the College of the Holy Cross in 1952. He subsequently enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a second lieutenant in Japan during the Korean War. Ed returned home and married Isabelle Healey on June 16, 1956. He then embarked on a more than 40 year career on Wall Street. His last 20 years were spent as a partner at Kidder-Peabody and as a floor partner on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Ed was a lector at St. Michael the Archangel in Greenwich and Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach, FL. He was a member of the Greenwich Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors, Golf Committee, and Greens Committee, as well as the Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach, FL. Ed was an active member of the USGA and the course rating committee of the Metropolitan Golf Association.

Before and after his retirement, Ed gave countless hours of service to Covenant House, Kids in Crisis, Habitat for Humanity and several other charitable organizations. He also sponsored the education of a young woman, who is now a junior at Cathedral High School in the Archdiocese of New York City via the Inter-City Scholarship Fund. Ed was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He held a huge soft spot for children, particularly his own grandchildren, who were the absolute joy and purpose of his later life. He was an avid golfer, but also enjoyed watching whatever sports his grandchildren were participating in.

Ed is survived by Isabelle, his wife of 55 years, his brother, Jack (Gail) and his sister, Missy Ahrens (Jim), sons, E. Michael III (Leslie) and Thomas H. (Katie) of Greenwich, daughters, Cary Winslow (Paul) of Far Hills, NJ, and Beth Bacon-Blaber (Steve) of Brooklyn, NY, 12 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be at Leo P. Gallagher on Arch St. in Greenwich from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, April 2nd, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated on Tuesday, April 3rd at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel on North St. in Greenwich, Ct. There will be a Memorial Service held in Vero Beach, Florida at a later time and date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his memory to the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, 1011 First Ave., Suite 1400, New York, NY 10022

Dear Isabelle and the Bacon Family, please accept our condolences on Eddie's passing. What a great character - outspoken, engaged, involved in the community and deeply in love with his family. We walked golf courses together in 4 countries over the years - what a pleasure. Proud to have been his friend for the last 20 years. All the best, Kelly and Karen O'Dea

To Cary, Beth and family-- so sorry to hear the news. I remember your Dad well and always enjoyed his company. And I've created my own version here from "It's A Wonderul Life," but whenever you here a bell, it's your Dad letting you know he's nearby.

dear Isabel and family, My deepest condolences on the passing of your dear husband and father. I had the honor of knowing Ed for about 50 years. I know if there is a heaven Ed is in The Arms of The Lord. Like St. Paul, Ed fought the good fight, he ran the race and now a crown awaits him !
God Bless him.
