Born in Mount Vernon, New York, on August 3, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Josephine Cilento and sister of the late Joanne Grimaldi.
Elaine was a beautiful soul inside and out, and the very picture of grace. She carried herself with a natural elegance, warmth, and kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Elaine had a special way of making those around her feel cared for and deeply loved. Above all, her family was the center of her universe, her greatest pride, and the joy of her life. Her passing leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, along with a lifetime of cherished memories.
Elaine married Joe Tighe, the love of her life, on September 29, 1962, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his passing in 2014. She is survived by her six children: Julie Tighe Carrabino (Joseph), Jill Tighe Kelly (Joe), Joseph M. Tighe, Jr. (Tiffany), Joy Tighe Cummiskey (James), Jayne Tighe Jepsen (Christian), and Jeana Tighe Roche (Kevin). Elaine was also the proud and adoring grandmother of 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren: JD Carrabino (Madisen), Courtney Carrabino Jurjevich (Benjamin), Billy Carrabino; Kristi Kelly, Brittani Kelly, Joe Kelly, Jr. (Alexandra) and Kaitlin Kelly; Isabella Tighe, Sophia Tighe, Freddie Tighe, George Tighe, and Joe III Tighe; Kathleen Cummiskey Correa (JP), Jay Cummiskey (Bri), Elaina Cummiskey, Tighe Cummiskey and Caleigh Cummiskey; Coco Jepsen, Thor Jepsen and Oscar Jepsen; Jillian Roche, Kevin Roche, Jr. and Joe Roche; Chloe Correa, Sophia Correa, James Joseph Cummiskey III, Charlie Cummiskey, and Meredith Carrabino.
Elaine enjoyed golf and tennis and was a longtime member of Winged Foot Golf Club and the Larchmont Shore Club, where she shared countless happy summer days and formed lifelong friendships that have endured across generations. A parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in Darien, Elaine carried her faith with quiet grace and strength throughout her life.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, October 26, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, Connecticut.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien, Connecticut. Interment will be private.
