A 1983 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Ma., she was the eighth of nine children in an Irish-Catholic clan that was the centerpiece of her life.
Liz had 23 nieces and nephews and began feeding each of them excess quantities of chocolate and candy before they were out of diapers, cementing her status as the favorite aunt of all time.
She was happiest, perhaps, in the lakeside cabin she rented every August on Cape Cod. She invited everyone to visit, every day, and she kept mass quantities of hot dogs on hand at all times. On a typical day, at least a dozen family members of all ages would come to read, swim, canoe, and eat lunch. She invited small groups of nieces and nephew for legendary sleep over parties, complete with midnight swims and binge-viewing trashy movies.
Liz was born in Kansas City, Mo., in 1961. She graduated from Ridgefield (CT) High School in 1979. After graduating from Holy Cross, she moved to Manhattan and excelled in a series of sales jobs before falling ill.
Her sickness left her unable to work at a regular job for the last 12 years. Still, she fought through the pain to offer what she could as a volunteer, taking special meaning from counseling children at the Den for Grieving Kids in Greenwich, and from serving as a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous.
She is survived by five sisters, Patricia, Victoria, Sheila, Katy, and Monica; three brothers, George, Garrett and Thomas; and by 23 nieces and nephews. Her mother, Frances Hubert, of Greenwich, passed away in 2010, and her father, George B. Moran Jr., passed away in 1972.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Greenwich. Donations may be made to The Den for Grieving Kids, c/o Family Centers, 40 Arch St., Greenwich, CT, 06830.
