Born April 7th, 1942 in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland to James & Catherine O’Gorman, Carmel has seven siblings, 6 sisters (Bridgette, Catherine, Margaret, Mary, Joan and Geraldine) and one brother (Stephen). The family immigrated to Greenwich, CT in the 1950’s. Carmel was one of the last to come to the United States in 1957 as she remained in Ireland with her father to watch over her two youngest sisters, Joan, and Geraldine.
Carmel met the love of her life James (Jimmy) Campbell, they married in 1965 and immediately started a family. They had two children Douglas (Aran) and Charlotte. Carmel was employed at many private households in Greenwich as a domestic engineer for the next 40 years. Carmel was a hard worker who made a beautiful home and life for her family, and always made time for friends and extended family.
Carmel loved animals dearly, and always said if she had the chance while young, she would have been a veterinarian. Carmel had a gift for making people laugh, and was an entertainer at heart, she enjoyed going to the local dances and dancing the night away. It was well known that she enjoyed fashion and she was known to be “dressed to the nines” for every social event she attended. One of her greatest loves was signing at the many house parties she or her close friends would throw. She will be remembered for her love of animals, beautiful voice, eye for fashion, and, of course, her wonderful sense of humor.
Carmel is survived by her daughter Charlotte (Danny), Son Aran, Grandson Christopher Pennella, Sister Margaret Teeling (Peg), Sister Joan Piro, Sister Geraldine Lambert (Harvey), and many nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and nephews.
