Frank “Popsi” Bellantoni, 98 of Greenwich, CT passed from this life on October 16, 2016. He was born on July 24, 1918 in Reggio Calabria, Italy. A resident, at the Mews, in Greenwich, since 2009, he made many friends, greeting each with a “Buon Giorno!” each day. Before moving to Greenwich, he resided, for 61 years in Greenwich Village, N.Y.
Frank loved watching Westerns and Italian television, listening to country music, and was known for his collection and wearing of baseball caps. He served in the Italian Army during World War II, stationed in Tripoli, and was a Prisoner of War. Newly married in 1948, Frank and his wife immigrated to the U.S. He worked at Case Paper, for 35 years, as a supervisor.
He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine, of 48 years, in 1994. Frank is survived by his children, Lu Ann Bellantoni, Greenwich, CT and Mario F. Bellantoni, (Rosemarie), Staten Island, NY, his grandchildren, Holly and Andrew Schiff, Mario Bellantoni, Jr. We would like to thank his caregivers over the years: Richard and Marley whose patience and caring was evident daily; Mo who was so kind, giving and special to us; Linda who brought him much laughter and joy, and Dr. K., his physician, who treated dad with utmost respect and was always there for us.
We are deeply indebted to the entire staff at the Mews, who welcomed him and made him feel right at home. Although English may not have been his native language, his warmth and friendliness was understood by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Frank can now cast aside his walker as he joins his long-time friends on a park bench in Heaven’s version of Washington Square Park and be with his beloved Giuseppina again.
Friends and family will be received at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich on Wednesday, October 19th from 3-7 P.M. Prayer services and entombment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, in Middle Village, Queens, NY on Thursday October 20th.
