Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of Meyer and Sonia Nova. George was an entrepreneur, with businesses in New York and Connecticut, working in apparel manufacturing and mergers and acquisitions for most of his career. As a young man, George was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Ordnance Corps, serving in Germany during the Korean War as a Military Intelligence officer. He often spoke of his time in the service as one of his highest honors and as a defining period of his youth.
In the moments of spare time that he’d grant himself, he often enjoyed playing tennis, going swimming and discussing baseball. However, what he especially loved was bringing his loving wife, Irene, to the theatre whenever he could find a showing in the area. If you spent any amount of time riding along in his car, you’ll certainly have heard one of his many renditions of Frank Sinatra songs. He will always be remembered for his commitment to his family, his business acumen and his reserved, yet cunning sense of humor. George took great pride in his four grandchildren, always inspiring them towards great ambitions and teaching them how to better their lives, as well as the lives of those around them. He was a brilliant and confident speaker who loved a spirited debate. He never lost a single one, or at least that’s what he would tell you.
George is survived by Aurelia Irene Nova, his wife of nearly 70 years, his sister, Rivie Fein, his children, Meryl Nova, Cynthia Nova Hathaway (Tom) and his four grandsons, Auric Nova, Jackson Hathaway (Natalia Orozco), Wyatt Hathaway, and Dylan Hathaway. He was predeceased by his brother Saul and Leo Nova and his sister Ruthie Katz.
The family is planning a private viewing to say their goodbyes and a celebration of George’s long life in the near future. Please visit leopgallaghergreenwich.com for updates.
