Dr. Gayola is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth nee Dandry of Greenwich, Connecticut, his daughters Stephanie Stolt-Nielsen (Jacob) of Oslo, Norway, Jennifer M. Berkley (Robert) of Greenwich, Connecticut, Wendy M. Gayola of Greenwich, Connecticut, and Carlotta M. Gayola of Greenwich, Connecticut, as well as six grandsons, Jacob, Georg, Wilhelm and Alexander Stolt-Nielsen, and William and Andrew Berkley. Dr. Gayola also leaves behind a sister, Paola Ruggieri of Martina Franca, Italy and a half-sister Simonetta Puppo of Rome, Italy.
Dr. Gayola was a retired cardiothoracic surgeon with a practice in New York.
A memorial service for Dr. Gayola will be held at a later date.
