Daughter of John Howard Hall and Blanche Malone Hall, Irene was born on September 17, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. After moving to Manhattan, Irene attended Cathedral High School. Irene, proud of her Irish heritage, marched in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parades. She attended the University of Connecticut graduating with a degree in business.
Her career began as an executive at Sears Roebuck. It was at Sears where Irene met her husband and it was love at first sight. They moved to Hong Kong where they married. Irene worked alongside her husband during the 13 years they lived in Hong Kong and then returned to the United States to raise their family.
First and foremost, Irene considered herself a wife, mother, mother in-law, and grandmother (Nana). She loved her family with her whole heart, and they adored her in return. Nothing brought her more joy than being with those she loved. She was also an avid reader. Playing Bridge was another pastime she enjoyed with her husband and friends. A proud Yankee fan, Irene rarely missed a game. Listening and singing along to Bing Crosby crooning Irish tunes always brought a smile to her face. And what a bright and beautiful smile it was!
Irene was predeceased by her father, John Hall, her mother, Blanche Hall, and her brother, John Hall.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Sidney, son James Ritman (Abby), daughter Catherine Holligan (Will), daughter Jamie Camche (Glenn), and daughter Randi Henry (Lonny).
By her grandchildren, Pierce Ritman, Charlotte Ritman, Finn Ritman, Liam Holligan, Everett Holligan, Brody Holligan, Calla Holligan, Jon Camche (Maya), Elizabeth Camche (Jacob), Ian Dubrowsky (Ara), Troy Dubrowsky (Alexa), and Joseph Henry. Sister in law, Gwenn Hall, and nephew, Chris Hall (Kim).
Irene will be deeply missed. Her kindness, generosity, love, humor, and patience will live on in those who loved her.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Greenwich, 254 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830.
