Janet Adams, 83, of Riverside, CT, died peacefully on June 3rd of complications from a stroke. She was born in Stamford, CT, on December 18, 1942, the daughter of Catherine and Felix Obuchowski. Janet was adopted by her step-father, Joseph Wozny and grew up in Glenville. She attended St. Mary's High School and graduated from UConn with a degree in elementary education. After teaching for three years, she left the profession to pursue her true passion - motherhood.
Her four children- William J. Caragol Jr (Carrie), Christine Caragol, Kerry D'Angelo (George) and Heather St. Louis (Martin) honored her with eleven grandchildren - Peter, Thomas, and William Caragol; Mateo, Nico, and Nina Bilbao;Derek and Jake D'Angelo; Ryan, Lucas, and Mason St. Louis; -who affectionally knew her as Nana.
Janet was also a step-parent to Payson Adams and Joshua Adams (Betsy Trowbridge) and a step-Nana to Louise and Thea Adams.
As her children grew older Janet returned to the education profession at both Greenwich High School and the Greenwich Board of Education. After her retirement, she and her husband, Bill Adams, pulled weeds together in the extensive flower gardens which Janet and her father had planted. They also enjoyed travelling out west, visiting Josh's family in Idaho and spending time in Yellowstone National Park. Janet and Bill spent many a late fall on one of her most favorite destinations - Sanibel Island, Florida. At one time in their adventures, Janet humored Bill's passion for sailing and together they cruised on Long Island Sound in their catboat. Janet later decided she preferred to gaze at the water rather than be on it. The beach on Sanibel provided the perfect venue.
At home Janet spent many weekends in the bleachers at a football field or at a hockey rink watching her grandsons play. She enjoyed ladies' lunches with former St. Mary's classmates and Mah-Jongg with her friends. Kerry and Heather caught the Mah-Jongg bug from her. For many years Janet successfully completed all seven New York Times crossword puzzles each week. She enjoyed Sudoku and working with Bill and her daughters on thousand-piece jigsaw puzzles as well.
The family wishes to thank all of Janet's friends who provided love and support throughout the past eight months. A particular thank you to the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, and hospice care givers in Medium Care, and Medicine A and B at Greenwich Hospital for their skilled and compassionate care.
Funeral Mass will take place at St Catherine of Siena Church located at 4 Riverside Ave, Riverside, CT 06878 on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11 AM.
