Joan S Murphy

Joan S. Murphy, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2013 at Greenwich Hospital. Born in New York City on November 15, 1928 to the late Albert and Nora Sternecker, Joan had been a long time resident of Greenwich. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. John Murphy. She enjoyed many years managing the Greenwich Hospital Gift Shop and later enjoyed volunteering at the Old Greenwich Rummage Room that benefits many local organizations. Joan was an avid bridge player and took great pleasure in her many bridge groups. She was also a long time member of the Innis Arden Golf Club and an active member of the Women’s Club of Greenwich supporting their many events.

She enjoyed more than anything the time she spent with her family. She is survived by her sister Claire Sternecker; her children Robert Long, Patricia Long Harris, Joanne Farrell and John Long; her 6 grandchildren Brian Harris, Laura Harris, Patrick Farrell, Ryan Farrell, Timothy Farrell, Brooke Farrell and her stepchildren Jerry Murphy, Jane Murphy, Ken Murphy, Nancy Murphy and Dan Murphy.

Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Monday December 23, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church 178 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT with burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
