John Lennart Rapp, a longtime resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025 at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his five daughters: Diane Rapp; Barbara Demmon (Charles); Jennifer Bello (Ernest); Linnette Lodato (Joseph); Lisa Daur (Thomas); his thirteen grandchildren: Melissa, Kathy, Charles F., Elizabeth, Ernie, Christopher, Emily, Joseph, Jr., Matthew, Mark, Phoebe, Andrew and Hunter; and his three great grandchildren: Brooke, Beckham and Maisie. Lennart is additionally survived by his sister in law, Ann-Cathrine, and by his three nephews and their families.
Lennart was predeceased by his loving wife, Joan Elizabeth Connolly Rapp; his parents, John E. and Martha V. Rapp; and his twin brother, J. Douglas Rapp.
Born on March 19,1930 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Lennart and his family immigrated to the United States in 1936. He graduated from Manhasset High School in 1948, volunteered for the U.S. Army, and later graduated from Adelphi University in 1953. He began his career as a contract analyst for the Equitable Life Insurance Company and later enrolled in the accelerated night program at Brooklyn Law School in 1954, obtaining a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in 1957.
Lennart practiced as a trial attorney in New York for many years before moving to Greenwich with his family in 1978. He later worked as a legal researcher for Whitman & Ransom in Greenwich until his retirement in 2000.
In 1955, Lennart met the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Connolly Rapp of Greenwich, Connecticut, and they married in 1956. Together, they raised five daughters to whom they passed on their love of travel, sports, and a healthy sense of humor, love and service to others. His grandchildren enjoyed their visits and remember family dinners and playing at the pool; playing cards; sharing traditional Christmas Eve smorgasbord dinners; and his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
In their later years, Lennart and Joan enjoyed attending the many sports and school events of their thirteen grandchildren. While Joan continued with her real estate business, Lennart volunteered for Utilize Senior Energy (USE) in Greenwich, matching older job seekers with individuals and employers in need of assistance. He also worked part time for Home Instead, helping seniors remain in their homes as long as possible – an effort that reflected his caring nature and dedication to his community.
Lennart’s daughters would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all relatives and friends who reached out with prayers, visits and support; the staff and residents of Hill House; the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service teams; and the doctors, nurses and staff at Greenwich Hospital, Vitas Hospice Services, and Nathaniel Witherell.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
