Margaret Hanson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by her loving children in Milford, Connecticut. While we are heartbroken to say goodbye, we are forever grateful for the extraordinary life she lived and the immeasurable love she shared over nearly a century.
Born in Canada, Margaret moved to Finland at just four years old, where she spent her childhood and embraced the rich traditions and culture of her Finnish heritage. Fluent in Swedish and deeply connected to her roots throughout her life, Margaret carried with her the warmth, resilience, and quiet grace that would come to define her.
As a young woman, Margaret returned to Canada, and before long, the love of her life, Lars Hanson, followed. Their love story began years earlier in Finland, and together they built a beautiful life surrounded by love, family, friendship, and countless cherished memories. While in Canada, they welcomed twins, Kenneth and Katherine, before moving to Fairfield, Connecticut, where their son, Stephen, was born. In 1990, Margaret and Lars began a new chapter in West Palm Beach, Florida, before Margaret returned to Connecticut for the final eleven years of her life, where she was blessed to be surrounded by the family she adored.
Margaret will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and effortless elegance. She was always beautifully put together, sweet and endlessly supportive, with a playful sense of humor that brought smiles to those around her. She formed lifelong friendships wherever she lived and had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed, remembered, and loved. Her family was the greatest joy of her life.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lars Hanson; her cherished daughter, Katherine Hanson; her daughter-in-law, Giselle Hanson; and many other cherished family members and friends whom she carried in her heart throughout her life. We find comfort in knowing she is reunited with those she loved and missed so dearly.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, Kenneth Hanson and Stephen Hanson; her beloved daughter-in-law, Eileen; her son-in-law, Jim; her grandchildren, Erik (Alexa), Jessica, Carly (Thomas), and Megan (Jeff); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Aidan, Brody, Mia, Thomas Jr., Scarlett, Liam, Kayden, Anneliese, Kody, Siena, and Trey. To them, she was simply Grandma, and to her great-grandchildren, Farmor—a title she wore with immense pride and love.
Margaret's legacy is one of grace, devotion, kindness, and unconditional love. She lived ninety-six beautiful years—years filled with family, friendship, laughter, and an unwavering appreciation for life's simple joys. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to live on through the generations she helped shape.
Margaret leaves behind a family who adored her, a legacy that will continue for generations, and countless hearts forever touched by the gift of knowing her.
May she rest in eternal peace, watching over those who love her most.
