Margaret attended The Bronx High School of Science, Harpur College (now SUNY Binghamton) and Queens College, where she graduated with Honors in Literature. She received a Master’s Degree in Education from The College of New Rochelle. She was the Co-Author of Beyond Loss: A Practical Guide Through Grief to a Meaningful Life, and a Board Member of numerous organizations, including The Family Centers, Glimmerglass Opera and The Fielding Graduate University.
Margaret was a longtime volunteer at The Den for Grieving Kids, where she facilitated support groups for adolescents and teens coping with the loss of a loved one. She was honored with the “Spirit of Volunteerism” Award in 2007.
Margaret’s dedication to education was a constant throughout her life, as the President of the Parkway School PTA, a teacher at Wilton High School, and Director of Alumni Relations at the law schools of Columbia University and Quinnipiac College. She was an avid tennis player and a voracious reader.
One of Margaret’s great joys in life was spending time with family and friends. She will be much missed and long remembered by her sister Ann, her children Ellen, Amy, Adam and Laura and their spouses Peter, Mark, Debbie and Pete, her grandchildren Nicholas, James, Lana, Connor, Ben, Alex, Carson and Blake, her companion Steve Tope, and her many close friends and family members. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Tess Brickman, her husband Marvin Sirot, and her second husband Robert Habl.
The family will be receiving visitors at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St. Greenwich, CT 06830 from 10-11am on Saturday, January 20.
