Marion Katherine Gunther Millnamow, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026. Born on November 14, 1929, in Jamaica, New York, she was the beloved daughter of Louis C. Gunther and Marion Deegan - Gunther. Marion grew up in Jamaica alongside her older brother, Frank Gunther, and her younger brother, Richard Gunther, who survives her.
Marion was a proud graduate of Jamaica High School, Class of 1947, where she was known as a popular and spirited young woman. Her love for her alma mater never waned, and she treasured attending class reunions throughout the years, delighting in reconnecting with lifelong friends.
It was in those formative years that Marion met the great love of her life, James Patrick Millnamow. Their love story deepened through the years of his service in the Korean War, and upon his return, the two were married on June 28, 1952, beginning a devoted partnership that would define the rest of her life. Together, Marion and James built a warm and vibrant home, raising their four children in Queens, New York, before putting down new roots on Massapequa, Long Island in 1968.
Marion is survived by her daughters Jane Patricia Blackburn, Ruthanne Ruzika, and Marion Katherine Millnamow; her beloved eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Patrick Millnamow, and her son, Craig Paul Millnamow.
Marion lived a life full of joy, community, and gracious spirit. She was a dedicated secretary at St. William the Abbot in Seaford, NY, where her warmth and care touched all who knew her. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and a beloved participant in Sweet Adelines, the barbershop singing group where her voice and laughter filled every rehearsal. On the water, Marion was in her element — she loved boating and could rarely resist a plate of clams or lobster. Her travels took her far and wide, feeding a lifelong sense of curiosity and adventure.
Crafting was one of Marion’s truest passions. She attended crafting classes with enthusiasm and shared her creations with a generous heart. Those who knew her well know that she believed deeply in the art of the written word — Marion loved a good thank-you note, and her thoughtful correspondence was a gift to everyone who received it.
Marion Katherine Gunther Millnamow was a woman of warmth, grace, and enduring love. She leaves behind a family that adored her, a community that was richer for knowing her, and memories that will be held close for generations to come.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Church, Greenwich, CT. March 20 at 10:00 am.
