Mary is survived by her husband of 42 years, John A. Robinson; her daughters, Christine Labate (Philip Lawlor), Emily Robinson, and Sarah Robinson; and her grandchildren, Ean and Erin Lawlor. She is also survived by her brother, John F. Toner, and her niece, Alexandra Schmitz. She was predeceased by her sister, Veronica “Roni” Schmitz, earlier this year.
The daughter of Bartley and Rose Loy Toner, Mary grew up in the Bruce Park neighborhood of Greenwich and attended St. Mary School, where she was elected Homecoming Queen her senior year. She earned her certification in Respiratory Therapy at Norwalk Hospital and worked for many years at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco.
Mary found community and lifelong friendships through the Ski Bears (where she met her husband), Girl Scouts, and AA. With good humor, she grew accustomed to hearing “Mrs. Robinson” throughout her life—and she always smiled at the familiarity of it. She was known for her warmth, humor, and compassion, and for always making space for those who needed to feel welcomed and seen.
Mary was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mary Church on Greenwich Avenue on Friday, November 28th at 10 AM.
Arrangements are being handled by Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, Greenwich, CT.
