R. Power Fraser Jr. died on Wednesday July 23, 2014 at the King Street Home in Rye Brook, NY. Born February 3, 1924 in Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA to R. Power and Beatrice Jones Fraser, Power attended Story High School in Manchester. After high school, he went on to Boston College until World War II broke out. During World War II, he served as a 1st Lt. Navigator in the 490th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force stationed in East Anglia, England. He was shot down on his 28th mission, captured and held as a POW in Moosburg, Germany until liberated. After the war, he continued his education at Boston College and then at Harvard Business School. Upon graduation, he pursued a career in business that spanned 40 years as Senior Vice president at GAF Corporation, President of the American Felt Co., President of the Ozalid Corp. and member of the Board of Directors of Plastic Suppliers, Inc. A long time Greenwich resident, Power was an avid golfer playing at Millbrook Country Club before joining Greenwich Country Club where he was a member since 1982. He served on the Board of Governors of GCC and was an Honorary Member of the Connecticut State Golf Association. With his sons and grandsons attending Brunswick School, he served on the school’s Board of Directors and was a regular fan at the school’s sporting events. Power was pre-deceased by his wife Arleen and daughter Jamie. He is survived by his two sons Peter and Power, his daughter in law Liz and his grandsons Zac, Daniel & Sam. Family and friends are invited to visit at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich on Tuesday July 29, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday July 30, 2014 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich. Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brunswick School, 100 Maher Avenue, Greenwich.
