Richard Patrick Petrizzi of Greenwich CT died on October 11, 2011 in Greenwich Hospital. He was born in Greenwich on February 11, 1924 to Angelina (Biagi) Petrizzi and Patsy Petrizzi and was a 1943 graduate of Greenwich High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation and was a Corporal in the US Army Military Police serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre including the battle of Iwo Jima. He was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star;
Dick had a career in sales and was a sales executive for Union Carbide, Monsanto and U.S. Gypsum Corp as well some small companies before becoming a national sales and marketing consultant which he continued doing into his 80’s. Dick was an avid gardener and cook and more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family and in particular his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved teaching his grandchildren how to make his Italian recipes including his famous pizza. Dick had a great enthusiasm for all aspects of life.He is survived by his wife of 62 years the former Mary Ksenak; his sons Jeffrey M. Petrizzi of Greenville, DE and Richard S. Petrizzi (Laurie) of Stamford, CT. He was predeceased by his 8-year-old son, Tommy who died of leukemia in 1970. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Ryan J. Petrizzi (Kristen) of Burlington, NJ;
John T. Petrizzi of Burbank, CA; Vanessa Figg (Brandon ) of Warrensburg, MO; Caitlin Zimmerman (Luke) of Plymouth, MA; Tyler, Jared and Lindsay Petrizzi of Stamford, CT, as well as two great granddaughters, Ayden J. Figg of Warrensburg MO; and Grace E. Petrizzi of Burlington NJ; He is also survived by his siblings Robert C. Petrizzi of Turner Falls, MA: and Jean Numme of Greenwich CT; and also 6 nieces and nephews..His family wants to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the caring and compassionate medical staffs at Greenwich Hospital and the VA Hospital in West Haven CT.
Viewing will be held at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT from 4-8 pm on Friday, Oct.14, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, 84 Sherwood Ave. Greenwich, CT (off King St.) on Saturday, Oct.15, 2011 at 10 AM.
