Richard Alan Wedemeyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Saturday, May 12. He was born on March 23, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Norman and Virginia Wedemeyer. Growing up, he was a brilliant student and very active in the community and scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Rochester under an R.O.T.C. scholarship and after graduating, served as an officer in the Navy on the USS Picking. He earned his Masters Degree at Harvard Business School, and worked in Australia and Spain. After moving back to the United States, he worked as Vice President for Henson Associates for 15 years. Following the death of Jim Henson, he left The Muppets and took over management of Channel Corporation, a family-owned business, mentoring his nephew in the wake of his brother-in-law’s death. As a longtime officer of the Harvard Business School Club of NY, he was one of the active members who over the years successfully helped build the organization. Dick devoted countless hours developing and leading career management seminars for HBSC members in the 1980s and 1990s. Out of these seminars came a well-received book that he co-authored with Mary Burton titled In Transition. That was followed by The Inner Edge: Effective Spirituality in Your Life and Work, co-authored with Ron Jue, published in 2002 and endorsed by His Holiness The Dalai Lama. He served on numerous boards over the course of two decades, and was an inspiration to all who knew and worked with him. His wisdom and guidance had a profound effect on all he met. He was loyal and dignified, intelligent and witty. His warmth and kindness will be sorely missed. He is pre-deceased by his first wife Shirlee Hamm and his sister Susan Wedemeyer Federroll. He is survived by his wife Jane, his son Trevor Wedemeyer, his daughter Laura Wedemeyer Hanson, his step-children David Young, Michael Young and Gregory Young, and his 5 grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Friday, June 8th at 2 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Riverside Avenue, Riverside, CT 06878. A reception will follow at the church immediately after the ceremony. To leave an online condolence please visit www.leopgallaghergreenwich.com
