
Graham, Russell Frost (Rusty) 72, of Greenwich died on January 24, 2017, after a brief illness. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Graham Field and husband James of Annapolis, Maryland, his son Russell Frost Graham Jr. and wife Adriane of Greenwich, his brother Arthur Graham of East Hampton, New York, and four grandchildren.
Born in Norwalk, Rusty attended the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, Beloit College in Wisconsin, and received his MBA from the University of Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Army before joining the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer in 1974, where he met his late wife of 40 years, and fellow Foreign Service officer, Virginia Lancina Graham. Rusty served at the American Embassies in Costa Rica, Morocco, Pakistan, and Peru before returning home to study at the National War College in Washington D.C. He served at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York for the remainder of his career, retiring as a Minister Counselor for Host Country Affairs in 2012.
Rusty was an avid traveler, a consummate diplomat, and a master storyteller. He was passionate about cartography, had an encyclopedic knowledge of the world’s geography, and was fluent in French and Spanish. He was beloved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.
