Stephen Oster

February 9, 1943June 7, 2013

Stephen Alan Oster February 9th, 1943 to June 7th, 2013 Born in Providence, Rhode Island Resided in Greenwich, CT Stephen A. Oster, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died yesterday at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital surrounded by his loving family. A resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, he was just 70. Oster, a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, was an accomplished businessman, humanitarian, esteemed professor, world-record holding pilot, active philanthropist, and passionate fisherman. His career began at A.J. Oster company in Rhode Island where he worked and cooperatively developed virtually every facet of the company’s growth; taking it from a small family metals distribution company into America’s largest brass mill products manufacturing and distribution service center, as well as the world’s largest manufacturer of pewter metal. After selling the company to Cookson Group, he charted a new course for himself in the merchant banking world by establishing Oster Industries and The Greenwich Consulting Group, a private consulting and investment company specializing in real estate and venture capital. Although his travels and career took him all over the world, his real love and personal achievement was always with the precious family and friends he cherished. He lived his life with great pride and humility and it was his selflessness, strong faith in Judaism, and generosity that will truly be his legacy. May his memory forever be a blessing. He is survived by his wife Sandra, children Sarah and Aaron, and two grandchildren. “Life is over so quickly. It is possible to reach the end with no regrets. It takes some bravery to live it right, to honor the life you are here to live but the choice is yours. Appreciate the time you have left by valuing all of the gifts in your life, and that includes especially, your own, amazing self” All donations to be made to Chabad-Lubavitch, 75 Mason Street, Greenwich, CT 06830 — In memory of Stephen A. Oster Funeral service will take place Sunday, June 9th at 2PM at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT 06830

My late husband, Corny Hudak, was a close friend to A J , Richard and Steven for several years. At the time - AJ Oster was a customer of Plume & Atwood where my husband served as President and AJ served on the Board of Directors. I worked there also and remember a young Steve Oster coming into the office with a great smile on his face. Very friendly to all of us. Throughout the years my husband mentioned the Osters and always wondered where Steve was - he would be sad to learn that Steve passed so young. My sincere sympathies to the family of this smiling, friendly young man.

I was in contact with Stephen until about one month prior his passing.

Although we eventually lived far apart I always looked at him as a special friend and person. He was indeed one of a kind.

It is with heartfelt sympathy we learn of his passing.

He will surely be missed by his family, friends and society

My condolences to the Oster family. I do remember the excitement at the AJO Providence office in 1978 when Sarah was born - that week in March was when my employment began with the Oster family. Stephen always had a smile and words of wisdom to share. May he be at peace.
