Master Sergeant Charles Boyd Hearn, retired US Army, 93, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Greenwood. He was born October 4, 1930 in Bristow, Oklahoma to the late Boyd and Mary Dalton Hearn. He grew up in Greenwood, Arkansas and graduated from Greenwood High School. He was a 23 year U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was retired from GNB Battery, member and deacon of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, member of the VFW Post#6527 in Greenwood, member and past president of the South Sebastian County Historical Society, member of the Gideons International and the Fort Smith Trolley Museum.
He is survived by his son-in-law, Peter Burns of Beaverton, OR; two granddaughters, Sarah Whittaker and husband, Justin of Greenwood and Mary Mareina and husband, Robert of Hillsboro, OR; three step-daughters, Carol Valley and husband, Pat of Fort Smith, Nancy Chance and husband, Alton of Natchez, MS and Dr. Martha Colvin and husband, Ronny of Chattanooga, TN; one brother, Jerry Hearn of Bryant, AR; five grandchildren, Wes Kelley and wife, Averie, Lauren Nguyen and husband, Josh, Blake Alton, Hailey Whittaker and Ryan Whittaker; five step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Merle Hearn and Ann Melton Hearn; a son, Charles Bryan Hearn; his daughter, Dawn L. Burns; granddaughter, Miranda Meade; brothers, Kendrick and David Hearn and two sisters, Ellen Ione Spearman Elmore and Mary Luan Moore.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 17 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial with military honors at Huntington Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post#6527. Honorary pallbearer will be Richard McKinney.
