Cleta Mae (Jameson) Terrell died at home in Hackett, Arkansas on January 6, 2024. She was born on Friday, October 21, 1938 to Clyde and Edith (Van Cleave) Jameson at home in Fort Smith. She grew up in Fort Smith and graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1956. On September 29, 1962, she married Billy Arthur Terrell, and they were married 59 years and 11 months when he died in 2022. In addition to her husband Billy, Cleta was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Edith Jameson, her brother, Clifton Jameson and a nephew, Clay Jameson.
She is survived by her four children, Elaine Terrell (Foster Vertrees), John Terrell, Mary Terrell and Sarah (Burt) Stover. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jared and Jack Stover, sister-in-law, Wilma Jameson and her niece and nephew.
Cleta was active in her community serving as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters and as a volunteer at the school PTA/PTO. She enjoyed nature photography, digital scrapbooking and travelling the country with Bill. She was an avid reader from childhood and shared this love with her children. In her 30s, she became interested in researching her family history and over the next fifty years, she became an expert on genealogical research. She has helped many others master the basics of family history.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Arkansas. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hackett, Arkansas.
