

Dorothy Farmer, 87 of Bakersfield, California died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Bakersfield. Dorothy was the youngest of nine children born to Jacob and Nannie Holland. She was born September 6, 1926 in Barber, Arkansas Her husband, Donald Farmer preceded her in death in 1982. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Janet Farmer.
Dorothy and Donald were married in Ione, Arkansas October 11, 1948. They moved to Los Angeles where Donald opened a Barber Shop and Dorothy worked for Kresses and JC Penney’s over the years. Dorothy retired in Bakersfield and has resided there for the past twenty-seven years.
Dorothy was a member of Stine Road Baptist Church in Bakersfield for over twenty years. She enjoyed getting together with the ladies in the senior Sunday School Class and having lunch or dinner out. She was a good gardener and always had a front yard full of blooming roses. She enjoyed listening to Christian and country music. In retirement she took up the hobby of knitting, making all types, sizes and colors of doilies. She sold them, and gave many away to friends and family. There are still a lot of homes in Bakersfield decorated with her handiwork.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, with burial at French Prairie Cemetery in Ione.
