Dorothy Laverne “Mema” Wheeler, 88, of Greenwood, Arkansas went to be with her Savior Monday, May 20, 2024, on what would have been her 71st wedding anniversary to the love of her life, James, who has been waiting for her in Heaven since 1994. She was born to Robert L. and Nora Carter on June 13, 1935, in Greenwood, Arkansas.
Mema graduated from Greenwood High School in 1953 and married her sweetheart the following day. While raising their three children, she spent many years working alongside her husband at their gas station in Jenny Lind. She then went on to help care for her grandchildren until the opening of her son and daughter-in-law’s Bulldog Diner, where she baked her famous pies. Upon closing of the diner, she was able to continue her popularity with the community while working at Shop Persnickety. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling everywhere, especially Branson, with her daughter, Becky. Mema was always ready to go with any family member, whether it be a dinner or a baseball game. She enjoyed going to church and sharing the Gospel with anyone that would listen. In addition to being Mema to her 4 grandsons and great grandchildren, she was Mema to all that knew her.
Mema is survived by her daughter, Tresa Lowe, daughter, Becky Adams (Darren), daughter-in-law, Linda Wheeler; grandsons, Josh Gamble, JR Wheeler (Kristin), and Ethan Adams (Bethany); great-granddaughters, Dacie Dunn (Max), Kiyah and Kynslee Wheeler; great-grandsons, Ezekiel and Elias Adams. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Mema is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son, Jimmy Wheeler; grandson, Aaron Gamble; great-grandson, Landry Gamble.
A memorial service to celebrate the life and eternal victory of Mema will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 24th at Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Family visitation will be held immediately following the memorial.
