Edna Hewett, 83, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 24, 1943, in Huntington, Arkansas, and lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Edna was the wife of Jim Hewett; cherished mother of Sherry Logsdon and her husband, Lance, and James Hewett. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Ryan and his wife, Allie; Lainey, Zachary, Seth and his partner, Caney, Nick and his partner, Raine, Collyns, and Parker, and was overjoyed to become the great-grandmother of Willow. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Debbie Hewett, and her younger brother, Marion Escalante, and his wife, Becky.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Ben and Elizabeth Escalante; her brothers, Matthew, William, Bernard, and Donnie; her sisters, Virginia, Lois, and Josie; and her nephews.
Edna also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. While she shared unique bonds with many, she loved every one of them dearly and never missed an opportunity to make them feel loved.
Edna devoted many years to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother. Later, she worked at Hobby Lobby, where she not only enjoyed her work but also formed cherished friendships that remained dear to her throughout the years. She was a faithful member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, where her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures - watching television reruns, shopping, going anywhere just to get out of the house, spoiling her ornery dog, Opie, and, above all else, spending time surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended family. There was nowhere she would rather be than with the people she loved.
To know Edna was to know kindness. She never met a stranger and would gladly help anyone in need. She had a gentle spirit, a warm smile, and a heart that welcomed everyone. She was an angel on earth, and those who knew her understood why. Her love for others was simply too great to be contained in her little heart. She made people feel seen, valued, and loved, and the world is better because she was in it.
Although her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now whole, at peace, and in the presence of the Savior she faithfully served. The love she shared, the faith she lived, and the example she set will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, August 3 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Huntington Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, before the service.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Hewett, Zachary Hewett, Seth Hewett, Nick Hewett, Chris Coward, Darrick Coward and Parker Logsdon.
