Elmer R. Beshears, 94, of Greenwood died Friday, June 4, 2010 in Greenwood. He was born February 16, 1916 in Ione, Scott County, Arkansas and married Tura Elna (Wood) on February 20, 1937 in Berryville, AR. He was a retired businessman, founder and CEO of Greenwood Fixture, local civic leader, Westark Board of Trustees (now UAFS), Greenwood School Board Member, local Chamber of Commerce member, homebuilder and member of the Greenwood Church of Christ, where he was an Elder for many years. He suggested the name “Westark” when the former Fort Smith Junior College became a county wide institution. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Robert and Parnie Mae (Metcalf) Beshears; his son, Billy Elmer Beshears of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Edith Hogue of California and Margaret Bush of Barling, AR; six brothers, Arville, Allen, Archie, Otis, Calvin and Billy Beshears.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Greenwood Church of Christ with burial at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Jeff Christmas and Dennis Gage will be officiating. Viewing will be Monday from 1 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Tura; a daughter, Shirley Hanry and husband, Lenoir of Greenwood; daughter-in-law, Faye Beshears of Tulsa, OK; three sons, Jim and wife, Martha of Greenwood, Don and wife, Edna of Greenwood and Roger and wife, Lavetta of Fort Smith; one sister, Marcell Clopton and husband, Lloyd of Locust Grove, OK; 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Billy, Chris, Ronald, Allen, Keith, Ewan, Rick and Larin Beshears and Bryan Hanry. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Wood, Lloyd Clopton, Clarence LaFleur, J.T. Coleman, Winton Carson, Raymond Beshears and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
