

Gene Doris Hocott, born December 22, 1922 in the Oak Grove community (now Fort Chaffee), passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the St. Edward Mercy Medical Center hospice facility in Fort Smith, AR surrounded by her family.
Gene was the daughter of Albert and Myrtle Richardson and the wife of Guy B. Hocott, who preceded her in death. Gene and Guy were married for 63 wonderful years.
Gene was known throughout the community for her giving spirit and serving heart. She was named the Greenwood citizen of the year for 1992. She was a beautician in Greenwood for 58 years and used her talents at Pink-Bud Nursing Home and McConnell Funeral Home. She was a founding member of the Kristin Lowery Foundation in Greenwood, a charter member of Vache Grasse Recreation Golf Club and was the Arkansas Women’s Golf Association Amateur Champion in 1977. Gene was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Clinton Nauert of Greenwood; son and daughter-in-law Rod and Gail Hocott of Little Rock, AR; and a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Blake and Debbie Hocott of Fort Smith; and grandchildren, Sharon Cabe of Greenwood, Steve Nauert of Rockwall, TX, Lanier Hocott of Little Rock, Jeff Davis of Little Rock, Jordan Davis of Ketchum, ID, Logan Hocott of Little Rock, and Zach Hocott of Fayetteville, AR; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Greenwood United Methodist Church with interment at the U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Please wear your scarf to the service to help us celebrate Gene’s giving spirit.
Pallbearers will be Garron Cabe, Leyton Cabe, Zach Hocott, Max Hocott, Jordan Davis and Patrick Davis.
Honorary pallbearers are the nurses and staff of Pink-Bud Home for the Golden Years.
