Idris James Marcotte, 87, of Witcherville, Arkansas passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 in his home. He was born February 28, 1931 in Zurich, Kansas to John and Rosa (Balthazor) Marcotte. He was the sixth of eight children. He started working construction in 1949 for Harry Hamel Construction and returned to that job after the service. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953- 1955. He married Marietta Meis in 1959 and they established their home between Zurich and Plainville. In 1976 they moved the family to South Sebastian County, where he contracted, built and sold several homes before retiring to Witcherville. In retirement, he especially enjoyed attending sporting events in which his grandchildren and great grandchildren participated. He was a charter member of the Northwest Scott County Fire Department and member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Hartford, where he served on the church council for several years.
Funeral mass will be 12 pm Friday, December 28 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Hartford with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marietta Marcotte; one son, Paul Marcotte of Huntington; two daughters, Mary Radley and husband, Gary of Hartford and Treva Edwards and husband, Lewis of Mansfield; one brother, Arvon Marcotte of Nebraska City, Nebraska; one sister, Gloria Hamel of El Dorado, Kansas; nine grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way.
Pallbearers will be Paul Marcotte, Gary Radley, Lewis Edwards, Derrick Marcotte, Dale Radley and Jason Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be James Radley, John Boswell, Michael Kinsey and Doug Dunn.
