John Edwin Fairbanks, 85, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 in Greenwood. He was born March 21, 1938 in Sturgis, South Dakota. He was the local manager at SWEPCO, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a mason, member and volunteer at the South Sebastian County Historical Society and member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. He was also a Master Gardener, were he used his skills to help maintain the Old Jail Museum and Log Cabin for the historical society.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sonya Fairbanks; two sons, Jim Fairbanks of Portland, Oregon and Mike Fairbanks and wife, Karen of Russellville and one grandson, Trent Fairbanks of Jonesboro. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Grant Fairbanks.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, February 26 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 3 – 5 p.m.
