Joseph “Joe” Byron Lowrie Jr., age 73, peacefully joined his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. He was born on July 22, 1951, to Joseph Byron and Myrtle (Sealy) Lowrie in Sardis, Mississippi.
Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alpha Mae Lowrie; his children: Donna Byers (late Mark Trevor), Lisa Ponce (Orlando), Stephanie Miller (Bill), Joey Lowrie (Candice), and Kenney Landers; his eleven grandchildren: Jamie Walling (Seth), Christopher Byers (Amanda), Jennifer O’Mara (John-Michael), Justin Johnston (Nickki), Nathan Ponce, Marlee Miller, Lanie Miller, Karsten Miller, Miranda Smith (Cameron), Chase Lowrie (Lena), and Deanna Buckner (Chris); and seventeen great-grandchildren: Rayder, Rian, Chandler, Graham, Piper, Layla, Reagan, Liam, Rylei, Kenlei, Emreigh, Haidyn, Lilly Anne, Ella, Abigail, Serenity, and David. He also leaves behind his sister Linda Carlisle (Richard), brothers Bobby Lowrie (Judy) and Donnie Lowrie (Belinda) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Myrtle; his sisters Barbara Williams, Gloria Ward, and Peggy Scoggins; his son-in-law Mark Trevor; and his great-granddaughter Lilly Anne.
Joe was the epitome of a family man. He loved graciously, taught with kindness and patience, and had an unmatched work ethic. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sports fan, especially of the Arkansas Razorbacks. And the most phenomenal cook. He (and his cooking) will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood, Arkansas. Family visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Greenwood First Free Will Baptist Church in Greenwood, Arkansas, with graveside burial to follow at Steep Hill Cemetery, Steep Hill Rd, Fort Smith, AR 72916.
Pallbearers will be Chris Byers, Seth Walling, Rick Carlisle, Jackie Richmond, Tommy Williams and John-Michael O'Mara. Honorary pallbearers will be Rayder Broberg and employees of Northwest Fire Protection.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be sent to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in Joe’s honor.
