Karen Gay Pennington

Karen Gay Pennington, age 72, passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Born on April 1, 1954, in Heavener, Oklahoma, Karen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness and strength touched all who knew her.

Karen was the cherished daughter of Nancy Whisenhunt and Wesley Davidson. She grew up in Greenwood, Arkansas, where she built a life filled with love and laughter. In December 1988, she married the love of her life, Lynn Pennington. Together, they made their home in Poteau, Oklahoma, later moving to Edmond, Oklahoma, and eventually returning to Greenwood, Arkansas, where they lovingly raised two of their grandchildren.

A devoted housewife, Karen found joy in simple pleasures. She loved listening to music, sharing laughter, and crafting with her best friend, Debbie Ralston. Known for her kindness, humor, and unwavering strength, Karen was a devoted caretaker, especially to her mother.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Karen was an active member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood, living by the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race and I have remained faithful, and now the prize awaits me, the crown of righteousness."

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Lynn Pennington; her younger sister, Debi and Johnny Brady; three daughters and one son; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Karen's legacy is one of love, laughter, and faith. She leaves behind a family and community enriched by her warmth and generosity. Her unique spirit, special sayings, and cherished traditions will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, September 14 at Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

Pallbearers will be Doug Ralston, Larry Craig, Travis Craig, Rick Cox, Jerry Wilkinson, Jeff Ivey and Larry Bilyeu.

Karen's life was a testament to love and faith, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
