He was born in Collinwood, Tennessee on April 13, 1947 to Olive and Carrie Butler. Born the only son of six children, his sisters: Joyce Schoenmann and her late husband, Charles of Gallatin, TN, Thelma Butler of Gallatin, TN, Mable Butler of Gallatin, TN, Wanda Key and her husband, Gary of Gallatin, TN, and Gennette Mock and her husband, Ronnie of Orlando, FL.
The family moved to Gallatin in 1960; he graduated from high school in 1965 and joined the United States Army shortly after. He spent four years in the service, including one year in Vietnam (1967). He was released from active duty in 1969. In 1970, Pete moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas to assist with a new operation of Breeding Insulation. Soon after, he met Susie and they married on October 29, 1971. He started Pro Insulation, a commercial insulation company, in 1979. His business and co-workers were like family. After 31 years, he retired.
He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood, an avid supporter of the Bulldogs and Greenwood Schools. He was commonly seen at Vache Grasse Country Club and with friends at “the round table” from the coffee shop.
Pete was a man who had an impact on many lives. He was quick to help those in need, and never asked for recognition. He loved his family, his town, his country, and his Savior. He did things his way. He loved and was loved. He will be missed, yet we find comfort in this truth that he rest with his Savior in Heaven.
