

Larry L. Payne, 70, of Jenny Lind died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Mercy Hospital. He was born in LaSalle, Colorado on June 25, 1942. Larry was a Vietnam veteran and patriot, serving 22 years in the U.S. Army as an Engineering School Instructor. After retiring from the Army, he worked at Fort Chaffee until retiring in 1992.
Larry was active in the ministry of the Fort Smith Christian Women’s Job Corps, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Jenny Lind, and loved his church family. He enjoyed working in his garden, fishing and spending time with his family, and especially adored his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; one daughter, Jennifer Connell and husband, Quentin of Sherwood, AR; two sons, Nathan Payne and wife, Cindi of Tahlequah, OK and Jeff Payne of Jenny Lind; three sisters, Bonnie Hartman of Willard, MO, June Yeagley of Orangevale, CA, and Lavon Kellogg of Wickenburg, AZ; three brothers, Ed Payne of Perris, CA, Alvin Payne of Hartford, AR and Glenn Payne of Nuevo, CA, and five grandchildren, Hannah M. Payne of Greenwood, Nina M. Coates and husband, Eric of Wagoner, OK, David A. Larru of Fort Smith, Elizabeth M. Larru of Fort Smith and Lindsay N. Connell of Sherwood, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Payne and Jessie Garcia; one sister, Wilma Owens, and two brothers, Bud Payne and G.L. Payne.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21 at Faith Baptist Church in Jenny Lind. Interment with military honors will be at Old Jenny Lind Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Stateroom hours will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 Friday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Powell, Lynn Miller, Michael Lytle, Jim Hutcherson, Bill Hutcherson, and Brandon Cartwright. Pallbearers will be military personnel.
