He was born on February 16, 1947, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to the late Geraldine (Tuxhorn) Wyman and Orville Tuxhorn. He graduated from Helena High School, where he was a star athlete who set track records that still stand today. He later enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor during the Vietnam War.
While serving with Company C, 2nd Battalion (Mechanized), 2nd Infantry during the Tet Offensive, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat, a testament to his extraordinary courage and selfless devotion to his fellow soldiers. He also received numerous other medals and commendations in recognition of his distinguished military service.
His commitment to serving others did not end with the military. He went on to build a career as a firefighter, first at Fort Chaffee and later at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in Oklahoma. He retired after more than 20 years of service with the rank of Fire Captain.
Lee shared many wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Debbie. Together, they built a life centered on family and life's simple joys. They loved spending time outdoors, taking road trips, and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on their grandchildren at ballgames, school events, holidays, and every milestone in between.
Lee is survived by his wife, Debra "Debbie" Tuxhorn of Witcherville, AR; his son, Lee Tuxhorn and wife, Shelley of Little Rock, AR; his daughter, Addie Gulati and husband, Tanuj of Austin, TX; his sister, Cathy Campbell and husband, Terry of Little Rock, AR; his granddaughters, Anna, Kate, and Natalie Tuxhorn and his grandsons, Shaun and Jaiden Gulati. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
A visitation will be held at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood, AR, on Wednesday, July 8, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
A military service honoring his faithful service to our nation will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery on Thursday, and will begin promptly July 9, at 10:00 a.m., where he will be laid to rest with the honors he so humbly deserved.
