Margherita “Sue” (Suzie Scaramuzza) Morgan passed away March 8, 2025 peacefully. She was 82 years old. Sue was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on May 15, 1942. She was raised on a farm in Hartford, Arkansas where she attended Hartford Schools. She excelled at academics, played basketball, was a member of several clubs and organizations and was a cheerleader. She graduated in 1960 from Hartford High as the Class President and Valedictorian.
She then attended the University of Arkansas and got a degree in teaching and was President of her sorority. After graduating from the U of A, she moved to Houston, Texas where she taught 5th grade at Grissom Elementary School for several years. After living in Houston, she returned back to Fort Smith to teach where she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Ron Morgan from Mansfield. The two began dating again and were married in 1972.
After a few years of teaching in Fort Smith Public Schools, she began traveling to and from Fayetteville to work on her Masters in Education. She completed this degree in 1977 while pregnant with her daughter Kathlene.
During her time in Fort Smith Public Schools she worked at Rogers, Trusty, Ballman, and Bonneville Elementary Schools, where she served as Principal at the later schools. She was recognized numerous times for her work and contributions in the field of education - including Teacher of the Year while in Houston, Principal of the Year for the state of Arkansas and the Spirit of Frontier award was presented to her in 2003 by the city of Fort Smith. She retired from Fort Smith Public Schools after 40 years of service.
She was a member of Rye Hill Baptist Church and up until her illness was very involved in the church and enjoyed her time in Sunday School while deepening her faith through various Bible studies.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie of 52 years who absolutely adores her; her one and only daughter, Kathlene (Kat) McGraw - who thinks she is the best mom ever; her beloved son in law, David; her amazing grandson, Mason and sweet granddog, Chewy. She also leaves behind her younger sister, Rose Walker and older brother, Frank Scaramuzza. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Scaramuzza and father, Frank Scaramuzza.
Sue was an outstanding educator, a talented artist, and an all around go-getter from a very early age. She tried out many things over the years, even working at a zoo and taking flying lessons. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping with her daughter.
After retiring, she loved spending time with her family and made many memories on “the farm” in Frogtown with her husband, where they would ride four wheelers, tend the land, watch the wildlife and enjoy God’s creation together.
Her proudest moments include her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Ronnie, the birth of her daughter, Kathlene and spending time with her grandson, Mason who was born in 2009.
Sue was truly an angel among us. She had a servant heart, was a powerhouse and was always willing to help others. She was highly respected and valued as a mentor, friend, and colleague. She has made a lasting impact on many lives in the Fort Smith and surrounding areas and continues to be an inspiration for many. She will be missed tremendously, and her husband and daughter will be strongly bonded to her until they see her again.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood. A private graveside service at Hartford Memorial Park is scheduled for a later time.
Special thanks to Fianna Hills Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and attention they gave Sue and her family during her illness.
