Nancy Ruth Thames, 86, of Greenwood, AR went to be with her Savior Thursday, January 21, 2021. She was born to Albert Mitchell Maness and Lila Annis Maness on Oct. 26, 1934 in Maness Community, AR. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1952. She was a life-long homemaker, devoted to serving her family and community. She was a charter member of Jenny Lind First Baptist Church where she was a faithful servant of the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Williams. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Winford (Harold) Thames of the home; children, Dan Thames (Lisa), Kenny Thames (Stacy), and Laurie Young (Don); sister, Opal Harris of Ft. Smith, AR; brother, Jim Maness (Vicki) of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Brian Williams (Sarah); Tara Gamble (Aaron); Derek Williams (Leah), Brad Thames (Shuiyi), Don Thames (Emily), Chris Turner, Anthony Turner (Lauren), Kayla Smith (Hayden), Rachel Brasher (Toby), Seth Woodhull (Brenna); Bethany Young, Caleb Young, and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 26 at Steep Hill Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Monday from 1 – 7 p.m. the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be the grandsons.
Nancy loved the Lord, her family, and her church family. She loved to travel, learn, and cook often combining them all in service to others, from four mission trips abroad to cooking at church, to bringing dishes to neighbors. Nancy was a hard worker and had the heart of a servant. She volunteered countless hours with the Extension Home Makers Club of which she was a lifetime member, 4-H Club, Operation Christmas Child, hospice services, and mission work. Her favorite place to be was in her kitchen for Sunday family dinners. Everyone was always welcome at her table.
