

Paul J. Childress, 88, of Dayton died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in his home. He was born October 20, 1922 in Jenny Lind, Arkansas. He was retired from Latchford Glass, an Army veteran of World War II serving with the Third Army, fifth Division, Company G, Red Diamond Brigade, receiving the Silver Star, four Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verla Childress.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Union Ridge Cemetery in Dayton. Viewing will be Friday from 1 – 9 pm at the funeral home.
He is survived by one daughter, Paula Murphy of Dayton; two sons, Bart Childress of Downey, CA and Jim Childress of Blyth, CA; one sister, Deloris Starkey of Little Rock, CA; one brother, Art Childress of Fort Smith; five grandchildren, Wendy Trozzi of Fort Smith, Brian Hicks of Lyons, KS, Scot Childress, James Childress of Blyth, CA and John Childress of Goodyear, AZ and seven great grandchildren.
