Robert Hicks

Chief Robert Hicks (Ret.) was called home on October 19, 2018. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margret of nearly 50 years. He has left behind his daughter, Anna Hicks Kleinschmidt and husband, Robert; his son, John Hicks and wife, Cara all of Greenwood. He has been very proud of his grandchildren, Levi and Sam Hicks, Tyler, Hope and Jacob Kleinschmidt of Greenwood, Melissa Jones of Fort Worth, Mary Powers of Foulke, Amy Bullington and Brilea Hatfield of Fort Smith and Haley Walters of Sallisaw. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Angel Price, J.D., J.R., Susanna & Robert Powers of Foulke, Tre Vann & Sean Jones of Fort Worth, Eliniah, Peyton and Paxton Bullington of Fort Smith. He also left behind his sister, Mamie Chaney of Texas and brother, Nolan Hicks of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Edith Hicks and his sisters, Dorothy, Lavern, Lorene, Lela, Geraldine and Mary and brothers, Joe, JW and Albert.

Robert retired as a detective from the Fort Smith Police Department and also as Chief of Police from Greenwood Police Department. People that came of age in the 70’s and 80’s in Fort Smith remember him for directing traffic at Whirlpool or as a fixture at Jack’s Skateland, every Friday, where he would cover security. God was an important part of his life, he was proud that he had met his wife in church and would never miss an opportunity to witness to people. He was a member of the Gideon’s and led a life of service. He believed that his work as a police officer was an extension of that service and would often quote Romans 13:4.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 26 at Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit from 5 – 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Robert, Tyler and Jacob Kleinschmidt, Dwayne Hicks, Brandon Walters and Levi Hicks. Honorary pallbearer will be Cary Clay.
