

Ruth P. Slankard, 83, of Huntington went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 13, 2013 in her home. She was born on November 28, 1929 in Sunflower, Mississippi. She was a homemaker, widow of Jackson “Mike” Slankard, to whom she was married to for 65 years, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Huntington for over 60 years. She enjoyed crocheting and working puzzles. She loved her family, spending time with them, and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be today at 2:00 p.m. at Huntington First Baptist Church with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by a son, Jack Slankard, two daughters, Debbie Slankard and Janice Chapman and husband, Chuck, all of Huntington; three grandsons, David Slankard of Hollywood, California, Scott Slankard and wife Alissa of San Diego, California; and Jason Chapman and wife Amy of Greenwood; two granddaughters; Christy Thompson and husband Jason of Mansfield; and Julie Chapman of Huntington; five great grandchildren; Alexander Chase and Brielle Slankard of San Diego, Blair Thompson of Mansfield, Liberty Rogers and Lakyn Chapman of Greenwood, and two very special little boys, Caden and Jackson Wagner of Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents Howard Moore and Juil Alexander; her husband, Jackson “Mike” Slankard; one brother, Andy Moore and two sisters; Mallie Johnson and Rubye Barlow.
Pallbearers will be Jason Chapman, Jonathan Gordon, Jason Howard, Lynn Johnson, Jr., Andrew Moore, Ronnie Moore and Jason Thompson.
