With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend, Sharon Kay Brewster, who left us on October 4, 2025 at the age of 82. A pillar of strength, loyalty, and warmth, she touched countless lives with her unwavering love, fierce spirit, and sense of humor.
Born in Fort Smith, Sharon was a woman of deep roots and strong convictions. She was stubborn in the best ways—determined, principled, and always standing firm for what she believed was right. Those who knew her knew that once she loved you, she loved you for life. Her loyalty was unmatched, and her heart held space for everyone she called family and friend.
She was a loving wife to John, sharing a life filled with laughter, partnership, and deep devotion. Their love was built on mutual respect and an unshakable bond that served as an example to many.
Family was the center of her world. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother, and a steadfast presence in the lives of those she loved. Holidays, or her making waffles, and even the simplest everyday moments were brighter because of her care and laughter. She gave selflessly, listened intently, and made sure no one ever left her home hungry—or without knowing they were loved.
A passionate basketball fan, she never missed the NCAA tournament. March Madness was her favorite time of year—brackets were sacred, upsets were thrilling, and cheering for the underdog was practically a tradition. Her love for the game brought joy to those around her and sparked many friendly debates over the years.
Sharon lived a life marked by authenticity, resilience, and fierce love. Though we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of strength, loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love.
She is preceded in death by her son Tyler Stormes, daughter Shelley Stormes, grandson Ethen Stormes and husband John Brewster.
She is survived by her daughters, Aleasha Dees (Billy) of Austin, TX and Renee Stormes of Jackson, MS; granddaughter, Tyla Stormes (Danielle) of Fort Smith who was raised by John and Sharon; stepdaughters, Carolyn Standridge (Jim) of Mustang, OK and Jan Evans (Baker) of Bella Vista, AR; stepsons, Brent Brewster (Jo) of Florence, KY and Paul Brewster (Debbie) of Madison, IN; 23 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and countless friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.
A service to honor Sharon’s life will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 9 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Hackett. Viewing will be Wednesday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hackett Public School Education Foundation at P.O. Box 23, Hackett, AR 72937 or simply take a moment to tell someone you love them—she would’ve liked that.
Rest well, Sharon Kay. We’ll be thinking of you every March.
