Susan Lonnetta DeArmond Shelby was born April 30, 1963 in Ardmore, Oklahoma and passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Susan graduated from Greenwood High School in 1981. Susan met her husband, Rick Shelby, through mutual friends and enjoyed a first date at Burger King. They married on December 5, 1987 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and enjoyed 35 wonderful years of marriage together. They were blessed with two handsome sons, and two delightful grandchildren as well as a joyful great-grandchild.
Susan enjoyed a successful career of over 30 years at DeArmond Bit Service, serving as the “right-hand woman” to the owners and continued her career at Chuck Fawcett Realty until the time of her death. Susan was known as the life of the party who never met a stranger. She was also known for her beautiful smile as well as her delicious pecan pies and chocolate chip cookies. Susan was an avid bowler and golfer and loved spending time with her family.
Susan is survived by her husband, Rick Shelby of Fort Smith; her parents, Gary and Gwen DeArmond of Fort Smith; two sons, Landon (Cheryl) Shelby of Fort Smith and Logan Shelby of Fort Smith; one grandson, Dawson Shelby (Andi) of Alma, AR; a granddaughter, Daye Shelby of Alma, AR; a great-granddaughter, Gracie Shelby of Alma, AR; a brother, Curtis (Brenda) DeArmond of Paris, AR; three nephews, Jantzen (Tara) DeArmond of Greenwood, AR, Garrison (Kelsea) DeArmond of Cecil, AR and Denver DeArmond of Paris, AR along with four great-nieces, Alayna, Amelia, Alivia, and Devyn DeArmond. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Billie Shelby of Charleston, AR; a brother-in-law, Mark (Lesa) Shelby of Fort Smith and two nieces, Melissa (Michael) Vaught of Charleston and Kristin (John) Bonaminio of Little Rock, AR.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 24 at Rye Hill Baptist Church with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing and visitation will be Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood.
