Tommy Dale Basham, 82, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023. He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on April 12, 1940, the son of Raymond Thomas Basham and Avis Emma (Casey) Basham.
Tommy graduated Greenwood High School, Class of 1958. He attended John Brown University on a basketball scholarship. After college he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Elmore. Tommy and Sue soon moved back to call Greenwood home and start Basham Agency in 1969. Tommy and Sue spent the last 64 years happily married and Basham Agency is still in operation today.
Tommy was involved in many civic organizations throughout his time in Greenwood. For many years Tommy was a member of the city planning commission, where he was passionate about the growth and future of Greenwood. From founding the Babe Ruth baseball team to announcing Greenwood High School football games, Tommy contributed significantly to the community he loved.
Tommy lived life to the fullest every chance he had. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf, and most of all... working!
Tommy was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Avis Basham, sister, Margaret Gibbs and nephew, David Gibbs.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Sue Basham; sisters, Jean Basham and Marilyn Beacraft; daughter, Sandee Atkins and husband, Scott; sons, Chris Basham and wife, Quade and Todd Basham and wife, June; grandchildren, Keather Hansen (Bryce), Whitney Carroll (Antonio), Brenna Woodhull (Seth), Tyler Basham (Katie), Anna Basham, Charley Toney, Jayson Toney, Oran, Zenie and Zayin Basham, Noah Basham, Olivia Basham and Trey Woods; great grandchildren, Jude and Ezra Hansen, Rose and Teddy Woodhull and Sybil and Florence Carroll as well as Annalise Basham and many other family members.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, February 16 at Greenwood United Methodist Church under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Wednesday from 2 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
