Knock, knock
“It’s me, God. My engine’s quit.”
Troy Hollan Sharp, appeared on the Father’s doorstep on June 1, 2021. He was a man of few words, but wise words; an example of how to work hard and hardly work. A handyman who was always tinkering. Many knew his gentle demeanor, abundance of love, and his kind soul, though only a select few had the honor to know his funny, goofy, fun-loving, and at times, ornery side. Troy and his twin, Roy were born in Borger, Texas on June 19, 1944 to the late Vonda and Thurman Sharp.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy, Roger and Lindell Sharp. He has left behind two sisters, Sharon Shelton and husband, Benny of El Dorado, AR and Shirley Welch and husband, Jerry of Witcherville, AR and one sister-in-law, Leta Sharp of Midland, AR. He met the greatest love of his life, Brenda Sutter in 1956 and gave her his last name on August 5, 1962. They had two sons, Kevin Wayne and Keith Allan. The oil fields took their little family on a whirlwind of adventures before the coals mines led them to settle in Hartford, AR at Number 6 Camp. Kevin married Teresa Lewis and made Troy a Grandpa of three grandchildren, Brittney Roper and husband, Wesley, Andrew Sharp and wife, Jessica and Philip Sharp, who all reside in Fort Smith, AR. He also has two great-grandchildren, Kevin Jeremiah Roper and Savvy Jane Sharp.
From hard hats, to a miner’s cap, to a Cardinals baseball hat he was a man who wore many hats; though the ones he wore the best included a wonderful husband, a great father and an adored grandfather. He is dearly loved and will be missed by many.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 8 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Huntington Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Bobbitt, London Willis, Mark Cumbie, Scott Michael, Stan Jenkins and Steve Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Dake, Matt Jenkins and Jerry Welch.
